WHAT WE DO
The SNYPJOA conducts free ongoing training throughout New York State for its members.  We are the only organization that offers the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) Certified Basic and Advanced Juvenile Officer Courses.  Additionally, we routinely offer DCJS Certified School Resource Officer and Advanced School Resource Officer Courses, as well as training in Interview and Interrogation and Child Sexual Abuse Investigation.  Through a joint partnership with the New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS), we offer a series of seminars on gangs and other topics that address the current trends and issues impacting young people throughout the state.  Sponsoring high quality training is a large focus of the SNYPJOA.

If one of our members articulates a need for training in a particular subject area, we will do our best to provide that training for them free of charge!

The SNYPJOA believes that it is imperative to work collaboratively with other agencies in the accomplishment of our mission.  Our organization maintains close working relationships with DCJS, OCFS, the New York State Association of Chief's of Police, the National Center for Mission and Exploited Children, Youth Bureaus throughout the state, and many other community organizations.  Cooperation among agencies in the juvenile justice system allows us to pool resources and to improve services and ensures consistency of practice.

The SNYPJOA is also an advocacy organization.  Through joint efforts in Albany, we were able to help pass Penny's Law, to secure legislation requiring keg registration, and to increase the age of young people eligible for Persons in Need of Supervision (PINS) services.  We are also supporting the DNA Bill and legislation that would assist in investigations conducted by the Department of Social Services.
