New York's Juvenile Officer and School Resource Officers Association

From the Executive Director:

The State of New York Police Juvenile Officers Association (S.N.Y.P.J.O.A.) was established in 1975 as an educational and training organization. Its membership is comprised of police juvenile officers, School Resource Officers and D.A.R.E. officers, school personnel, social and youth bureau workers, and other juvenile justice professionals. The association became incorporated on May 16th, 1976, and then approved as a 501(c)3 not for profit organization by the federal government. The S.N.Y.P.J.O.A. is a recognized leader in New York State for developing and implementing curriculum for the certification of police juvenile officers, School Resource Officers, Community Resource Officers, Juvenile Justice Professionals, and family services, with a special focus on crimes committed either by or against children.

Our Mission:

The State of New York Police Juvenile Officers Association is committed to the development and implementation of quality training for all of its members and others in the field of juvenile justice. Through this training, law enforcement and other juvenile justice and human services professionals will ensure that our communities remain safe and that our young people have the opportunity to develop into successful and productive citizens of every corner of New York State.

What We Do

For over five decades, the State of New York Police Juvenile Officers Association (SNYPJOA) has championed the mission of strengthening relationships between law enforcement professionals and our youth—laying the foundation for a safer, more connected future for our communities.

SNYPJOA delivers innovative and ongoing training statewide, specializing in child safety, juvenile law enforcement, and family advocacy. We are proud to be the only organization in New York State offering the Certified Basic and Advanced Juvenile Officers Courses.

Our leadership in the field includes:

· Introducing the School Resource Officer (SRO) program to New York in the late 1990s, developing its curriculum, and securing certification through DCJS and the Municipal Police Training Council.

· Offering DCJS-certified Basic School Resource Officer training, as well as advanced certifications including the Advanced SRO Course, Interview and Interrogation, and Child Sexual Abuse Investigations.

· Hosting timely seminars addressing emerging issues and trends that impact youth locally and nationally.

· Launching our newest certification, the Community Resource Officers Course, featuring the innovative I’m Human model developed with our partners at I’m Human 360, Inc.

At the core of everything we do is our commitment to sponsoring high-quality training that meets the evolving needs of professionals and communities alike.

Collaboration
We recognize that lasting impact requires strong partnerships. SNYPJOA works closely with DCJS, OCFS, the New York State Association of Chiefs of Police, the New York State Police, the New York State Sheriffs’ Association, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, Youth Bureaus across the state, NYS Women in Law Enforcement, NASRO, and many other community and professional organizations.

Through collaboration, we amplify resources, strengthen consistency of practice, and ensure that together, we are building safer communities and brighter futures for New York’s youth.

Leadership

The SNYPJOA Board of Directors provides strategic oversight and is composed of:

All Past Presidents in good standing

The Board oversees training, finances, curriculum development, fundraising, and conference planning, with the support of expert consultants from the New York State Police, the FBI (Albany Division), NYS Commission of Corrections, county attorneys, and the NYS Education Department.

SNYPJOA by Region

SNYPJOA has region Representatives across the state available to the needs of the membership and issues that arise relative to Juvenile Justice in New York.
